A variety of courses ranging from introductory to advanced are offered year round, on the rock face or on ice, covering toproping and lead climbing techniques. The courses are tailored to your experience and interests, and can be given privately or in small groups, lasting from half-day to full-day. Safety equipment is included.

The city of Matane invites visitors to discover this park situated on the islands of the Matane river. The beach with lifeguard, paddleboat and rollerblade rentals, a playground and minigolf course help make this park an ideal place for sports.

You’ll also enjoy a stroll along the promenade or “captains’ walk”. In the midst of downtown Matane, the promenade honours the region’s maritime tradition through the stories of its most illustrious captains.

This municipal park offers beach access. Pétanque courts (lawn bowling), swings, picnic tables, multipurpose arena. Check out the trail with interpretive signs that relates the maritime history of Les Méchins.

The challenge trail and the labyrinth of the college in Matane are open all year for hiking, snowshoeing and skiing. Easy hiking. The trail covers about 6 kilometres and the labyrinth 2.3 kilometres. There are riddles in the maze and the goal is to find the objects scattered throughout the meandering path in order to get the answers to the questions. Geocaching on the entire course. Pets on leash allowed.

Access to the trail is free.

Access via the Matane Wildlife Reserve

This trail runs across the Gaspésie with over 650 kilometres of trail for short and long excursions. The Matane Wildlife Reserve section of the trail passes through the Chic-Chocs for over 100 kilometres (moose included), with lodging in campgrounds with platforms and enclosed shelters.

Located in Saint-Léandre de Matane, six kilometres into the forest, the Trails of the Grotte des Fées (the “Fairy Cave”) offers outdoor enthusiasts hiking trails that vary from family level to intermediate. The arboretum and the wildlife, historical and geological information allow visitors to discover the region’s forest heritage. The site provides access to a canyon, a waterfall and a 500-million-year-old rocky grotto. The scenic outlook at Lac Adèle provides an ideal site for birdwatching. The trails are 12 kilometres long, round trip. Car access to the Grotte and the trails.

The Matane Wildlife Reserve has the largest number of moose per square kilometre in all of Québec. Resort, fishing, moose watching, interpretation centre and guided activities.

Welcome station located 40 kilometres south-east of Matane, via Route 195

With the help of guide-interpreters, discover the fascinating characteristics of the Atlantic salmon returning to the river. The fish-pass has two glass basins that allow observation. In addition to your visit, there is a photo and object exhibit that explains the history of the Matane River and its dams, from 1865 to nowadays.

Duration: 1 hour.
Schedule: June 15 to September 5, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and September 6 to September 30, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
