Matane's world-famous prawn
Cold-water prawns are caught, transformed and processed with care and passion in Matane, which makes it the ideal area to savour it! Cold-water prawns, highly appreciated by the costumers for the delicacy of their flavour, are caught from spring to fall in the St-Lawrence Estuary, off the Anticosti Island and in Sept-Îles. About fifteen trawlers supply the Matane plant. In 2008, the Marine Stewardship Council gave this specific fishery a sustainable certification.
50 years of processing
Matane has been a leader in the processing of cold-water prawns for the last 50 years thanks to Fruits de mer de l'Est du Québec. The Matane brand prawn now belongs to the world leader Royal Greenland and is recognized worldwide for its irresistible taste and pink colour.
