There are a multitude of outdoor activities on offer at the park, which is located at the heart of the Matane River in the town centre. You'll see lots of people running, walking and cycling around the park using the 1-kilometre-long looped cycle track. If visiting with your family, take advantage of the different play and picnic areas. You can also hire pedalos, kayaks and bikes, and there's a mini-golf course. There's even a supervised beach area where you can swim. Parc des Îles is one of the best places in town to spend a summers day.
The Promenade des Capitaines runs alongside the Matane River in the town centre. There are several commemorative plaques telling the story of the town's maritime past. There are also several plaques rendering homage to the former captains of ships that played important roles in the history of the town. The promenade isn't only educational, it's also a great place to watch the sea birds and gaze out over the Matane River to enjoy a view you can't get anywhere else.
If you want to try local products the farmers' market is the place to go! This market operates in the town centre every Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00 during the summer season. It's home to a wide range of local products: don't miss your chance to savour La Matanie's products while they're fresh!
