Toujours Dimanche is a bakery with a warm and friendly atmosphere located in downtown Matane. Here you'll find artisanal breads, pastries, sweet treats, coffees, focaccia, sandwiches — all entirely homemade. The bakery uses almost exclusively high quality, natural local ingredients to produce its baked goods and menu items. The shop area also offers products from the Saveurs de la Matanie network and other carefully selected treasures. Monthly art exhibitions adorn the walls of the café area.

ESPACE F is a centre for the production and exhibition of artistic works in photography, video and the new media. The gallery’s programming reflects the diversity of current approaches in these modes of expression.

Claude Picher Exhibit

The Galerie d’art de Matane is an exhibition centre for contemporary art focusing on new works, diverse of techniques, and creative perspectives on today’s world. Come explore the collection La Couleur de la Gaspésie (colours of Gaspésie) by renowned painter Claude Picher. Of over one hundred canvases he created, more than a quarter are on permanent exhibition in the Salle Claude-Picher Tembec. The gallery gift shop features items with images of the works.

This street exhibit features the work of the young artists in the photography program at the Cégep of Matane. This exhibit lets visitors discover the creativity and diversity of the work of young photographers. The artworks in this open-air gallery are changed three times a year. It is always free and open to the public, at the corner of Rue Saint-Pierre and Rue Bon-Pasteur.

The first part of the tour offers a stroll along Avenue Saint-Jérôme to admire the old buildings, completing the loop with the Promenade des Capitaines (the “Captains’ Walk") which presents the maritime history of Matane. The second part leads to buildings and landscapes that are definitely worth the trip. A guidebook is available at the tourist office

With the help of guide-interpreters, discover the fascinating characteristics of the Atlantic salmon returning to the river. The fish-pass has two glass basins that allow observation. In addition to your visit, there is a photo and object exhibit that explains the history of the Matane River and its dams, from 1865 to nowadays.

In addition, the Société de gestion de la rivière Matane, the group that manages use of the river, offers introductory and advanced salmon fishing classes (reservations required).

The city of Matane invites visitors to discover this park situated on the islands of the Matane river. The beach with lifeguard, paddleboat and rollerblade rentals, a playground and minigolf course help make this park an ideal place for sports.

You’ll also enjoy a stroll along the promenade or “captains’ walk”. In the midst of downtown Matane, the promenade honours the region’s maritime tradition through the stories of its most illustrious captains.
