"The Colour of Gaspésie" Collection, by
painter Claude Picher includes 100 paintings. A quarter of that collection is
permanently presented in the Claude-Picher/Tembec hall where you can also visit

This street exhibit features the work of the young artists in the photography program at the Cégep of Matane. The artworks in this open-air gallery are changed three times a year. It is always free and open to the public, at the corner of Rue Saint-Pierre and Rue Bon-Pasteur.

The Galerie d'art de Matane is an actual art exhibit
centre that presents between 6 and 8 exhibits from professional artists. The
summer season is dedicated to regional artists (Bas-Saint-Laurent and

The first part of the tour offers a stroll along Avenue Saint-Jérôme to admire the old buildings, completing the loop with the Promenade des Capitaines (the "Captains' Walk") which presents the maritime history of Matane. The second part leads to buildings and landscapes that are definitely worth the trip. A guidebook is available at the tourist office.

With the help of guide-interpreters, discover the
fascinating characteristics of the Atlantic salmon returning to the river. The
fish-pass has two glass basins that allow observation. In addition to your
visit, there is a photo and object exhibit that explains the history of the
Matane River and its dams, from 1865 to nowadays.

Along the Matane River between the Vieux-Port and the Mathieu-D'Amours dam, downtown, the Promenade des Capitaines focuses on Matane"s maritime tradition through the history of its most renowned captains.
