There are a multitude of outdoor activities on offer at the Parc des Îles, which is located at the heart of the Matane River in the town centre. You'll see lots of people running, walking and cycling around the park using the 1-kilometre-long looped cycle track. If visiting with your family, take advantage of the different play and picnic areas. You can also rent pedalos, kayaks and bikes. There's a mini-golf course and a water playground. There's even a supervised beach area where you can swim. Parc des Îles is one of the best places in town to spend a summers day.
The Promenade des Capitaines runs alongside the Matane River in the town centre. There are several commemorative plaques telling the story of the town's maritime past. There are also several plaques rendering homage to the former captains of ships that played important roles in the history of the town. The promenade isn't only educational, it's also a great place to watch the sea birds and gaze out over the Matane River to enjoy a view you can't get anywhere else.
