WARNING! The reserve is now closed to visitors due to moose hunting from September 8 to December 21, 2020. The entrance is strickly prohibited. If you want to hike in the reserve, you need to contact the team of the International Appalachian Trail at 418-560-4642 from Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You need a permission to access (free) and you need to follow certain rules to be able to go walk on trails. The first Grande Randonnée (GR®) route in North America, this trail runs across the Gaspésie with over 650 kilometres of trail for short and long excursions. The Matane Wildlife Reserve section of the trail passes through the Chic-Chocs for over 100 kilometres (moose included), with lodging in campgrounds with platforms and enclosed shelters.
