Saint-René-de-Matane

Saint-René-de-Matane, located 25 minutes south of Matane on the Route 195, is famous for its majestic Salmon river stretching over the entire area, its Wildlife Reserve crowded with game and its gorgeous scenery. Two restored covered bridges can also be found in the village, amongst the 88 still standing in Quebec. The François-Gagnon Bridge stands in the heart of the village while the Jean-Chassé Bridge is close to the Gagnon stream where you can find a resting area and vantage points of both the bridge and the river.

The adjacent municipality of Saint-Nil shut down in 1974 and merged with Saint-René-de-Matane in 1982.

The village is a must for motor sports enthusiasts. The Trans Quebec ATV trail crosses the area so you can enjoy riding during summertime. During winter, the same trail is accessible for snowmobiles. The Route 195 that stretches between Matane and the Matapedia offers an alternative route to the Gaspésie region as well as another interesting point of view.

The municipality is surrounded by woods. Every season, you can admire the gorgeous scenery morphing with the trees’ colors, giving the village its usual warmth. The citizens are welcoming and committed to the blossoming of their environment.

The proximity to the International Appalachian Trail as well as other hiking trails makes it a destination of choice for visitors seeking ecotourism. Plenty of outdoor activities are available thanks to the area’s many natural sites. The Tamagodi and Matane rivers are perfect for visitors wishing to catch salmon.
