Sainte-Félicité is the coastal village known as the home of Isabelle Boulay, a singer, and Atchoum (Véronique Gagné), an entertainer for kids. It is first established to facilitate marine traffic and fishing. Historic records mention ‘’Cap à la Baleine’’, ‘’Pointe aux massacres’’, ‘’Longue Pointe’’ long before 1850, when the King’s road finally reaches Matane.

The first route can be traced back to 1858, it brings together two country lanes from the Saint Denis County, a subparish of the Saint-Jérôme-de-Matane parish. The first chapel is built in 1861. In 1864, the first religious missionary comes to live in the village. The post office is inaugurated that same year and in 1865, the first School Corporation is born.  In 1866, the Saint Denis County becomes a municipality before settling and finally becoming Sainte-Félicité in 1870. Due to an economic crisis, most families desert the area. Between 1890 and 1950, the village arises, thanks to the booming of forest exploitation, agriculture and to a lesser extent, fishing. Many crises hit rural regions around 1960 but thankfully fail to affect the village since it benefits from its ideal location, high number of agriculture businesses and its citizens’ loyalty.

To this day, Sainte-Félicité can count on its proximity to the river and woods, as well as significant number of farms that allow social, economic and cultural blossoming.
