Sainte-Paule is the youngest municipality in La Matanie. It provides interesting resort options, near the Portage Lake. In fact, more than 130 houses and lake houses sit on the edge of the lake, making it the MRC’s prominent resort area.

The area is full of lakes and various bodies of water, more so than the other municipalities of the region. The Portage, Towago and Petchedetz lakes are the most known. Local plants and wildlife benefit from its warm climate. The village offers an array of different marine activities for tourists such as fishing, hunting and trapping. It is also a destination of choice for people who love resorts.

The municipality sits amongst the Appalachian Massif. Its peaks have an altitude of between 185 and 365 metres high. Mountains and steep slopes characterize the topography.

While the area is only colonized in 1912, it is still exploited by the end of the 19th century. A sawmill is in fact operating around 1897. The Sainte-Paul parish gains its official title on December 16th 1922.

One of the region’s best panorama can be admired at this village’s Observation tower, standing on the peak of a mountain, by the Otter Lake. It gives a spectacular view of the windmills, the Matapedia valley and all the neighbouring villages. If you look to the north side, you can even peek the Côte-Nord region!

Activities: Kayaking, Fishing, Hiking and Snowshoeing Trails.

Services: Post Office, Cottages.
