Clarence Bouffard is a wood carver that takes inspiration from trees’ natural shape.
''Art’s beauty does not blossom hastily nor does it in the crowd’s excitement but rather in solitude, silence and rest. The conception and the evolution of a piece of work is acquired beforehand. When an idea magically comes in the night, does it come from the mind or is it the fruit of a long thought leading us towards a better future?''
Written by the artist himself (originaly in French), this quote reflects his own evolution. Self-taught, Clarence Bouffard began his future career by carving small crosses with a pocketknife and selling them to friends and family. With time, he refined his technique. Inspiration came to him as he admired the irregular shape of some of the trees and shrubs growing on his land. In the last twenty years, he carved more than 200 sculptures.
