This historical and genealogical society is a nonprofit organization that collects, processes, stores and disseminates the history of Matane and environs. It has a large library of wedding directories, parish monographs, photographs and genealogical records that go far back in time, letting visitors with roots here trace back their family tree with the help of volunteers.
New temporary exhibition: The Société d'histoire et de généalogie de Matane presents "90 ans d'aviation à Matane", from September 8 to December 15, 2023. The public will be able to admire old photographs and artefacts to discover the great adventure of aviation, from the time of the Watt brothers to the present day, through the history of Matane Air Services. This exhibition was made possible thanks to the collaboration and financial support of the Ville de Matane, as part of the inauguration of the Russell-Burnett airport.
Various exhibitions: photos, antiques, painting from Claude Picher's ''La couleur de la Gaspésie'' collection, stained glass windows by master glassmaker Olivier Ferland, sacred art, works by sculptor Jacques Bourgault, video library of films from CKBL television station and collection of audio testimonial entitled '' La mémoire vivante ''.

Schedule: Open all year. Tuesday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
