4 days to enjoy the fall in Matane

Published on 10 June 2026

Gourmet escapade, colorful panoramas, and relaxing moments between river and mountains.

Want to experience autumn differently? Head to La Matanie, at the gateway to Gaspésie!
Between flamboyant landscapes, local products, and outdoor activities, this destination charms with its authenticity. Here is a 4-day itinerary to discover what to do in Matane and La Matanie this autumn.

Day 1 - Discover the flavors of La Matanie

MORNING: Tuscany in the heart of Gaspésie

Start your stay at the Carpinteri Vineyard in Saint-Ulric, a jewel that evokes Italy in the heart of Gaspésie. Take a stroll among the vineyards, admire the Tuscan-inspired architecture, and taste their unique wines.

Must-see: the grape harvest period, from mid-September to mid-October, to experience the grape harvest live!

LUNCH: Perfect marriage of wine and cheese

Continue your journey to Baie-des-Sables and stop at the Fromagerie du littoral. Aged cheddar, grilling cheeses, or spreads, a true feast to accompany your local wine.

Then settle on the nearby beach for a relaxing break. With a bit of luck, you might spot seals lounging on the rocks!

EVENING: Local flavors at Projet La Ruche's Table Champêtre

End the day at Projet la Ruche, an inn and country table located in the heart of La Matanie's agricultural landscapes.
Their menu celebrates seasonal products, garden vegetables, honey, local meats.
It's the very essence of Gaspesian autumn!

Other ideas: Parc des Rives, Pierre-Carrier covered bridge, Chute à Ti-Mé, Sentier des Rosiers, La Meunerie, heritage tour, and hybrid bike circuits in Baie-des-Sables.

Local delicacy to enjoy: Fumoirs Raoul Roux, Productions aux Quatre-Vents, Serres René Santerre

Day 2 - Admire the endless autumn landscapes

Fall in Matanie is an explosion of colors between sea and mountains. Whether you're on a bike, motorcycle, car, or ATV, the panoramas are spectacular!

On the sugar maple trail

Take route 195: it runs alongside the Matane River and passes by some historic covered bridges. Stop at the Mytik Shack-Sucré Sugar Bush to admire the landscape and indulge in their wonderful treats.

Feel like climbing?

  • Mont-Castor: perfect for a short hike accessible to all, with a panoramic view of the valley
  • Mont Charles-Édouard-Vézina: a 2-hour ascent marking the entrance to the Chic-Chocs. Note: hunting is allowed in the area from September. Check before heading out.

The Centrale road, starting from Saint-Ulric, will take you to Saint-Léandre where the Grotte des Fées trails offer several hiking loops totaling 8 km. Accessible only until September 19 due to hunting, these trails unfold on a site of great geological and faunal interest. You might even have the chance to see beavers, the emblematic animal of Matane whose original name means "Beaver Vivier." Come evening, the site also becomes a preferred location for stargazing.
